Whether Great Expectations is your favorite
book, or your least favorite book, it is a book worth reading. This novel
hold unique themes and ideas that aren't discussed much today. This book
reveals different social classes, kindness within the unkind, innocence, and
creating your own fate. To think that a young, poor, lonely boy decided
to make something of himself and expect greatness of himself, is something
great.
Many people today don't understand
how much freedom you have. Living in the United States allows kids to
think for themselves. Children at any age are allowed, and even
encouraged to conjure up their own thoughts and ideas and share them with the
world. For Pip to figure that out without the experiences that
we have is amazing. Although this book is fairly old, it is still
extremely relatable. It incorperates common feelings that many children
have such as insecurity and sensitivity.
At the beginning of the book, Pip experiences many
different feelings. Being in the family that he is, Pip often feels
criticized and attacked. There is one scene where a few people come to
their house for a Christmas dinner. They continuously criticize Pip for
just about anything they can think of and he becomes insecure. Pip is
uncomfortable and feels as though they are all attacking him, especially his
sister. I’m sure most of us can relate. We are all attacked at one
time or another, as if people purposely jump at our every move and antagonize
us. It’s a horrible feeling and no one should feel that way, but it does
happen quite frequently especially at this age. Many people just dwell on
the negatives and do nothing to change their lives. Pip, having much less
opportunities than many people, pushes through the negatives and decides to
make a life for himself.
Great
Expectations is also a classic. I strongly believe that classic books are classics for a
reason and should continue to be read.
This book is very well known in general, and specifically for its famous
characters. Whether they start out
enjoyable or not, classic books hold certain unique characteristics that should
be discussed and read. For
example, Miss Havisham is possibly one of the most creepy characters in any
piece of writing. The old lady is
an important character in the book, and the idea of a character like her is an
inspiration.
Once you begin reading this novel, you will not be
able to stop. The twists and turns
begin to make sense and everything connects with one another. Relationships begin to unfold and
unlikely experiences occur. This
is a book that must be read, and will be enjoyed.
